David Riddell Arrest- “Convoy Santa” was Arrested Over Warrants Associated with Blocking Traffic During July 4th Protest

WASHINGTON, D.C.- July 6th, 2022– The leader of the 1776 Restoration Movement, David Riddell (AKA Santa) was protesting in Washington DC when he was arrested on a warrant related to blocking traffic during July 4th protest.

The 1776 Restoration Movement is a spinoff of the People’s Convoy which officially came to an end in March. On July 4th, the loosely organized group blocked 3 highways only one lane open. Blocking the streets in protest of the federal government, the 3 blockades were lifted after 30 minutes without any arrests or further incident.

On July 6th, the group went into DC and parked along a 2 block stretch of roadway in front of the National Mall, between the US Capital and the Washington Monument. where they intend to camp for a couple of days. Arriving at around 3:30am they parked in the parking lanes the group paid for parking and sat and waited.

At around 10:30am the police approached Riddell advised them of his warrant, placed him in cuffs and extradited him to Maryland. Meanwhile they towed Riddell’s truck.

Riddell had a warrant for 6 outstanding charges issued on the 5th of July. 3 criminal and 3 related to traffic infractions.

David “Santa” Riddell’s charges include:

  1. CR10.201 C1-A person may not willfully and without lawful purpose obstruct or hinder the free passage of another in a public place or on a public conveyance.
  2. CR10.201 C2- A person may not willfully act in a disorderly manner that disturbs the public peace.
  3. CR10.201 C3- A person may not willfully fail to obey a reasonable and lawful order that a law enforcement officer makes to prevent a disturbance to the public peace.
  4. WILLFULLY DISOBEYING (LAWFUL ORDER, DIRECTION) OF A POLICE OFFICER
  5. WILLFULLY DRIVING MOTOR VEH. AT SLOW SPEED IMPEDING NORMAL AND REASONABLE TRAFFIC MOVEMENT
  6. (STOPPING, PARKING, LEAVING STANDING) VEH. ON HWY. OUTSIDE BUSINESS & RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT
