County Sheriff Will No Longer Escort Protesters for Andrew Brown in Elizabeth City

June 23rd, 2021- ELIZABETH CITY, NC- In a letter from Sheriff Wooten of the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff stated that as of June 26th, 2021, protesters marching for Andrew Brown will no longer receive police escorts from the sheriff’s department.

Stating:

“The First Amendment provides the right to peaceably assemble, however, it does not provide the right to block roadways, nor does it provide the right to a law enforcement escort”

The Elizabeth City Police Department has yet to respond.

This comes after over 2 months of daily marches for the officer involved shooting of Andrew Brown.
