Every disaster is an opportunity for someone. Unfortunately there are many scammers taking advantage of the situation surrounding Covid-19. Many new forms of scams have emerged, and this infographic includes a few of them you need to recognize and avoid. As well as ways you can protect yourself from Covid-19 scams.

What ways will scammers approach you?

Most commonly scammers will contact you via email or phone call. They will often pretend to be offering legal help. For example, help to apply for Covid relief funding. They may also contact you on social media and solicit you to donate to a charity, or offer you “cures”.

What if I need legal help to get Covid-19 relief funding?

If you need legal help, be sure that you check for any potential attorney’s license.

You can also call (866-CA-LAW) to get help procuring legal aid.

How Do I know I am working with a licensed attorney?

Before hiring an attorney, check with the state bar. Their website will confirm if the attorney is indeed licensed to practice in your state. Be sure you verify they are licensed to practice in your state. Scammers will often impersonate lawyers and steal their identities. Be sure you are communicating with who the individual claims to be.
