Elizabeth City Council Votes 5-1 to Paint BLM on Street Near Sheriff’s Dept.

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- In a last minute proposition. The Elizabeth City council voted on a In regards to a proposition to paint “BLACK LIVES MATTER” on the street. The painting would go near the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Department. This vote comes only a few days after 9 people were arrested. Including 2 journalists. Voting 5-1 for the proposition. The city council elected to paint the BLM slogan in the road near the sheriff’s Department.

Councilwomen Jeannie Young held the one dissenting vote. Stating such an action would open a “Pandora’s box.” Councilman Billy Claude did not attend the meeting. When the street will be painted, and how big the painting will be are yet to be determined
