Governor Cuomo Steps Down as New York’s Governor

NEW YORK – August 10th, 2021- New York’s governor Andrew Cuomo steps down. One week after New York’s attorney general released a report alleging that he sexually harassed 11 individuals. Leaving the Lieutenant Governor, Kathy Hochul to take his place as New York’s first female governor.

After a string of controversies from his long political career. And 86 of NY’s 150 Assembly members stating they would vote to Impeach. Cuomo will be stepping down as governor so “‘government can focus on COVID'”.

In a press release New York’s Attorney General Letitia James responded to his resignation stating:

“Today closes a sad chapter for all of New York, but it’s an important step towards justice.

“I thank Governor Cuomo for his contributions to our state. The ascension of our Lieutenant Governor, Kathy Hochul, will help New York enter a new day. We must continue to build on the progress already made and improve the lives of New Yorkers in every corner of the state. I know our state is in good hands with Lieutenant Governor Hochul at the helm, and I look forward to continuing to work with her.”
